Comments from students...

Ahhh. Rest and relaxation. After all the tough business of studying, socialising and swotting what the average student needs is a gold old bout of R&R.

Of course, being students, money will be at a premium. So the keen, sharp mind of the student will be tested on ways to amuse his or herself.

We asked a group of cheapskate students how they could amuse themselves on £5 and £10 (without the aid of alcohol or your Nintendo Wii). Firstly, we challenged them to amuse themselves for a fiver or less:

“When you think about it, for a fiver you can go to ‘Wilkinson’s’, buy a Frisbee and go to the park etc.”

“In the summer; me and my friend got a £2 train to Lytham St. Annes, sat on the beach all day, then came back for dinner at home.  We went back to Avenham Park for a picnic, took a guitar and stayed there until 3am.  That cost hardly anything… and we didn’t get attacked!”

Mmm, always a bonus!

“You can spend the day playing in toy stores, which is one of my favourites. It’s really fun.”

“You can go round the cheap charity shops and compare to get the best bargain.  There are the museums and libraries.  You can rent a movie and buy popcorn for a night in.”

“You can just make friends with someone who’s got loads of DVDs.”

“Ok, there’s games, scavenger hunts and hide and seek.  I’m sure the hall’s staff don’t like that, but it’s fun.  Ok, in the courtyards then.”

“The ‘Harris Museum’, which is free.  It sounds a bit geeky I suppose, but sometimes they have good exhibitions and stuff.”

Breakfast in ‘The Ship’ (by the library), which is [about] £2.”

“Boots’ meal-deal is [about] £3 and you can take that to Avenham Park, or walk to Deepdale and go to Moor Park on the way back.”

Note from the TAG Team: Make sure you don't breech regulations in halls, it can lead to a fine!
