Safety
Comments from students...
Personal safety is an issue that UCLan takes extremely seriously. Unfortunately, it is something that can often go out of the window when new students (and some older ones) get a sniff of the barmaid’s apron, so to speak.
Now don’t let us paint Preston as a bad or particularly dangerous place – it isn’t. But like all university cities, there are those who will try and exploit all the youthful exuberance, the friendliness and the naivety of you fresh young things.
These are the experiences of some real students. So read on and make sure that you don’t make yourself a target for the less wholesome elements of society. We’ll give you a few tips on staying safe later on too.
"I find that the campus is quite safe…”
“…and around town too.”
“I don’t feel that it’s a rough place around Preston."
“I used to go out on a Saturday night anyway, but it’s a totally different atmosphere.”
On these safety pages are just a few of the personal safety issues you need to be aware of but let us re-assure you that incidents like we have described are rare – mostly because the majority of students are careful.
Most criminals are opportunists, so don’t give them the opportunity!
There’s a load more advice about being safe on the UCLan website and you can get guidance on safety issues from the ‘i’.
And if you have any specific concerns, speak to your course tutor, personal tutor or student liaison officer – that’s what they’re there for.
