Relationships at uni
A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!

Studying at UCLan will give you plenty of opportunities to begin new relationships but it’s also important to keep old relationships going strong.
As much as you can’t wait to enjoy the independence of living on your own your parents will be sad to see you fly the nest. Try to make time to ring your parents, it can be awkward if they ring while you’re busy but just make sure you ring them back when you have time, even if it’s the next day, you don’t want them to think you’re avoiding them!
Keep in regular contact with your old friends while you’re at uni, texting them will take up two minutes of your day and will let them know that you’re thinking about them. Visiting friends at different universities means you get to experience other cities and there are sure to be some excellent nights out!
Try not to worry too much about what will happen to your relationship with your boyfriend/girlfriend, only time will tell. If it’s meant to be you’ll find a way to make it work and if it isn’t you’ll have plenty to do to keep your mind occupied.
I found that a surprising amount of students were in long distance relationship. It’s important to make an effort to visit your boyfriend/girlfriend and get to know their friends and flatmates as well as your own so that you both feel comfortable when you visit each other.
If your partner is living at home then invite them to big nights out or concerts so that they still feel involved in your social life. However, it’s important that you enjoy your university experience to the fullest so don't let your partner hold you back.
As well as making friends for life here at UCLan there are plenty of opportunities to meet a new boyfriend/girlfriend so make sure you get out there and meet as many people as possible!
