Learning and Information Services (LIS) look after all things involving IT and the Library. UCLan’s library is open 24/7 during term time, providing access to over half a million items, with study spaces to suit your learning style, a café for when you need a break and staff to offer support when needed. LIS also look after the cutting edge IT services across most of the campus, including the many PCs and Apple Macs for you to use and a range of services which allow you to work from halls or home.

LIS’ services are utilised by all students in some way so see below for what they think…

A Psychology student uses the library for many reasons:
“I mainly use the library to source books, doing my course work, reading journal articles and I occasionally use the library computers to print out my work or journal articles.  Being a psychology student, there are quite a lot of the articles we need in the Key Resources Room, which has made it far easier to locate the specific titles we need.
I like the ground floor of the library as it feels less formal and is an area in which I can quite happily get on with my work.  I like the fact that there is a café but think that it could be improved by serving hot food.”

A Public Relations and Business student uses the library mainly for the internet and book loans:
“I use the library for internet use mainly as I do not have this in my flat. I have set up my computer to allow access to the UCLan wireless network. I use library books often and I am grateful for the new allowance of 15 books for final year undergraduates. I also find the key resources loans to be invaluable, and the new reservations system with its 24 hour admission (along with the library building) to be a great resource. Overall the library is the most important building on campus and my university experience would not be as successful without it and the essential resources it provides.

A student studying Nursing rang through to the LIS helpline to get technical assistance:
“I contacted the LIS Customer Support Team as I was having problems accessing Remote Access. The level of service was very good and my issue was resolved within the hour. I had lost some confidence in technology after some previous issues but the support team have helped me out and I have regained some confidence again.”

As the above described LIS have an IT, library and telecoms support line available on 01772 895355 (opening hours apply).
