For some it was a 3 years sojourn, for others it was just a year’s sojourn -  but one thing was sure; it was a destination well deserved – Graduation day.

As I listened to the names of students called out for all courses, which obviously fell short of the total number of students that began the sojourn.  The words “many are called, but a few are chosen”, crept into my consciousness.

‘Where they really chosen’? In this instance, No they weren’t. They only worked their way to redemption with zeal and passion.

It was then I realized that it was a sojourn neither for the feeble nor the faint hearted, but for the determined and strong willed.  I witnessed an assembly of unlike minds, distinguished by their collective determination to reach the ultimate goal; an array of those who toiled till the very end, and a collection of those who fell and rose again. One thing was similar, they never gave up.
To those left along the way, you might have a longer process of experiential learning; but that does not undermine your ultimate goal. You might just end up coming out bolder and stronger, having learned from your mistakes. It is better late than never.

At times like this, you might just want to look back and wish you could turn the hands of time. Hmmm - some split seconds just ticked past!!!  Start from where you are; it might just be your turning point.

Oh how lucky the freshers are, to learn from your mistakes. Hmmm - remember you were once a fresher!!! You might just want to help them avoid those mistakes.

UCLan still believes in you – you can make it if you really want.

As a new academic year begins, now is the time to make it work, it’s a new dawn, a new beginning, a whole new session – you might want to right the impending wrongs or totally create a new academic order as a Fresher.

You just need the Four D’s of excellence;

Dedication
Discipline
Diligence
Determination

Work as if all depends on you, and make the most of Now, you never might have it back.

Enjoy the ride, and welcome on board all ye Freshers!
