Plagiarism

A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!

Plagiarism is a big deal at university. It’s basically passing someone else’s work off as your own.  However, it’s not as obvious as it sounds.  It’s very easy to plagiarise if you don’t fully understand how to reference your work correctly.  The worst thing about plagiarism is not that you will get poor marks, but worse, as you could fail.

It is really important to get to grips with what plagiarism is and fully understand the consequences if you are caught plagiarising. Plagiarism is an important issue within higher education and once you arrive at university your tutors will discuss this further with you.  Don’t be shy, ask your tutor lots of questions if you are unsure, it is better to be fully informed so that you can avoid all forms of plagiarism.

Here’s a video showing a basic mistake loads of students make to get you thinking about plagiarism….
