Having your English skills brushed up and ready for action will help you out loads once you start university. Knowing these skills will help to save you bags of time at uni when you are trying to write assignments and may also earn you extra marks. Knowing what to write can be hard enough without the added worry of learning how to write and use English correctly so getting a head start will make your life easier later on in your course. Here are some websites which may be useful in order to get to grips with your English.
BBC Skillswise is an excellent basic skills website covering grammar, reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling and listening. Sections contain a mix of factsheets, worksheets, activities, games and quizzes.
BBC Learning is another good website for learning grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The website is clear and an excellent place to start working on your basic English skills.
The British Council website has a section which looks at identifying and using formal and informal vocabulary. The advice given includes information about the language used in the International English Language Testing System although it is a useful article for all students.
