TAG UCLan - The Alternative Guide (to UCLan)

Policy for TAG content

A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!

This document has been developed to guide staff and students as to what is appropriate content for the TAG website.

Introduction to TAG

TAG is The Alternative Guide (to UCLan).  The aim of TAG is to aid retention by enabling students to develop realistic expectations of university prior to arrival.  This will be achieved by sharing information about current students’ experiences.

These experiences are intended to be students’ experiences of UCLan, what they enjoyed, what they wish they had done differently and the advice they have for potential students.  TAG is to be realistic and honest and endeavours to reflect the diversity of the student body at UCLan.

TAG Content

TAG must follow the universities regulations and must not include any content that brings the university into disrepute as according to section D2.xiv of the Regulations for the Conduct of Students.

TAG is not to be used as a method for students to complain or as a means to have issues addressed.  Students with complaints or issues to be addressed should contact The ‘I’, the Students' Union or their Student Liaison Officer.

Content will not be included on TAG that criticises a member of staff or a course.  If the complaint links to information that could be included on TAG, the TAG team will look at having the content re-written for example if a students submits content claiming that member of staff does not respond to their emails.  The content will edited to suggest possible reasons what emails are not answered, the steps students can take to ensure staff read their emails and what action to take if they receive no response.

The reasoning for this is unless we can verify the issue / incident with the member of staff the content would be the view of the student and potentially libellous.  It is also possible that posting information about individual members of staff could potentially damage their professional reputation and it is inappropriate for TAG to produce content that could potentially have this impact.  There are processes and support services in place at UCLan to address issues with individual members of staff.

If you are producing an article for TAG please keep to a maximun of arund 300 words.
