It can be difficult to embed employability in your modules, but with a little adaption of your current assessments TAG might just be able to help!

TAG  – The Alternative Guide (to UCLan) is a realistic guide to UCLan to support students in their transition into HE.  The site shares students’ experiences of all aspects of life at UCLan enabling potential students to develop realistic expectations.

To keep the site realistic and appealing to potential students, it is important that current students are involved with all aspects of the project and this can be achieved by using TAG as a client for assessment.  By using TAG as the basis for your assessment you can give your students the opportunity to work with a real client rather than from a paper based scenario.  This will allow them to develop a range of transferable employability skills and give them experiences of work on a live project to enhance their CVs.  It will also provide you with a relatively simple method to embed employability into your modules.  Feedback from staff who have used TAG as a client for assessment has been very positive.

You students will;

• Gain experience in liaising with clients
• Develop their communication skills
• Gain experience of working to a client brief
• Develop teamwork skills

Some examples of TAG being used as a client for assessment are;

• ceth film production students producing TAG campus tour videos
• Public Relations students developing and implementing a communications strategy for TAG
• Marketing students undertaking market research into the content students expect to see on TAG
• ‘futures’ Awards students producing content for TAG through two modules on writing for the internet.

There are a wide range of activities students could undertake for TAG both behind the scenes and to develop content. We need students to;

• Develop and implement PR campaigns
• Develop and implement Marketing strategies
• Undertake market research
• Develop business plans for the continuation of the project
• Produce content for TAG through photographs, film, articles, graphic designs, etc – any content as long as we can digitise it for publication on RedDot so art, performance etc would be photographed or videoed.
