TAG Policy for content
A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!
This document has been developed to guide staff and students as to what is appropriate content for the TAG website.
Introduction to TAG
TAG is The Alternative Guide (to UCLan). The aim of TAG is to aid retention by enabling students to develop realistic expectations of university prior to arrival. This will be achieved by sharing information about current students’ experiences.
These experiences are intended to be honest, realistic student experiences of all aspects of life at UCLan, what they enjoyed, the issues and challenges they faced and the advice they have for potential students. TAG is not a marketing tool for the University. By sharing realistic and honest experiences TAG will enable potential students to be better prepared for university. TAG endeavours to reflect the diversity of the student body at UCLan.
TAG Content
TAG must follow the universities regulations and must not include any content that brings the university into disrepute as according to section D2.xiv of the Regulations for the Conduct of Students. This means that content that shares the students’ choices, decisions and experiences good or bad is welcome. However, content will not be included on TAG if it is abusive or offensive or makes a negative accusation against a member of staff, course or the university.
TAG is not to be used as a method for students to complain or as a means to have issues addressed. Students with complaints or issues to be addressed should contact The ‘I’, the Students' Union or their Student Liaison Officer.
If content is provided that does not adhere to the TAG Policy for Content , where appropriate, the TAG team will consider having the content re-written so the issue can be represented on TAG. For example if a student submits content claiming that an individual member of staff does not respond to their emails. The content will edited to state that there are some case where students do not have emails responded to, suggest possible reasons why this might occur, the steps students can take to ensure staff read their emails and what action the student can take if they receive no response.
The reasoning for this is unless we can verify the issue / incident with the member of staff, the content could be potentially libellous. It is also possible that posting information about individual members of staff could potentially damage their professional reputation and it is inappropriate for TAG to publish content that could potentially have this impact. There are processes and support services in place at UCLan to address issues with individual members of staff, courses or the university.
TAG will remove any content that breeches this policy or is reported as offensive to the TAG Team.
If you are producing an article for TAG please keep to a maximum of around 300 words.
Please provide videos in FLV format or a format that can be uploaded on to YouTube.
