'futures' work experience opportunities
A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!
The ‘futures’ Placement Unit provides advice and support for students and graduates looking to secure and undertake work based placements or internships. With access to a range of regional employers, the unit can provide assistance with locating short or longer-term experience opportunities. These allow students to gain relevant hands on experience alongside their qualification, while at university. .
Here is some feedback from students who have been involved in a placements or internships with assistance from 'futures':
A Journalism student has gained industry experience through 'futures':
“This was a really great opportunity. It's so difficult to get work experience in the media industry and most of the time you have to work for free but futures found me two fantastic paid placements. This is an excellent programme where businesses utilise the skills, experiences and resources from students to fulfil a specific project or task. In return we get real business exposure to include on our CV. Thanks to these opportunities I have three double-page published articles which have helped me to land my job working for a magazine in Dubai."
A Tourism Management student also gained work experience through a placement:
“Many of the jobs I was applying for were office based, but I had never worked in an office environment before. I felt I needed to get some more relevant work experience before employers would make me a job offer. The 'future's team introduced me to the ‘National Quiz’ who were looking for someone to join their Telemarketing and Promotions Team. I initially went on a 4 week placement where I worked within a team involved in researching via the internet and making market research calls.”
Whatever your course, 'futures' offers placements to all students to gain relevant skills for work within their desired industry.
