A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!
A Student Affairs Committiee of the students, for the students and by the students
The Student Affairs Committee (SAC) are here to defend your rights as students and to campaign for change to make students lives better. They are five officers who are currently or have recently been UCLan students and are elected by the student body to listen to you the students and to act upon your feedback on issues that you are facing. They are also a source of advice on procedures and support systems within the University.
Each of the five members have different roles which they do on a full-time basis. These consist of:
• The SU President
• The Campaigns Officer
• The Media Officer
• The Activities and Participation Officer (APO)
• The Education Officer
Students can go and speak to any of the Student Affairs Committee about any issues relating to student life. Here you can read about a student who sought advice from Kelly Burdett, the APO at that time:
Amy Norfolk, 23, studying Dentistry, wanted to start a dentistry society...
“My course mates and I realised that every other dentistry school in the country had a dentistry society at their university but we didn’t. We were told to go and see the Activities and Participation officer to see if we could set one up with the SU. The APO was really helpful and told us exactly what we had to do. She was also realistic and said that we may not be able to have the society set up in this academic year, but definitely in the next one. However, she said she would try and push it through for us. In the end the society was set up in this academic year. When we went to see her she really made us feel like we were part of the University and the SU and not isolated in our own department.”
