Something affecting your studies

Comments from students...

Things outside university can also affect study but this doesn’t mean you should suffer alone, or let these events end your studies.
The message here is: don’t panic if your course is not what you expected, you find you have changed your ideas about what you want to do or what you are suited to, or something outside university gets you down.

James is a mature student who suffered a setback whilst studying:
“UCLan’s just a really good uni to be at. I don’t know any different but my experiences so far have definitely been positive. I had a family tragedy and the lecturers said I could take as much time off as I needed. They’ve helped me catch up and given me all the support I’ve needed. I’d definitely recommend it [UCLan] to anyone else.”

Note from the TAG Team: When something happens like a parent getting sick or the loss of a loved one, it can be very difficult to focus on anything else.  However, it is very important that you submit extenuating circumstances.  Lots of students, when something happens such as a parent getting ill, think that they will be fine and it won’t affect their work – but you never know!  If you don’t submit extenuating circumstances and you find yourself struggling with work you may not be able to appeal.  You can submit extenuating circumstances online by visiting MyUCLan.
