Placements for potential teachers

AKA the Students Associates Scheme

Thinking of teaching?

If you fancy a £600 tax-free bursary for completing a 15 day placement in a school or college then the Student Associates Scheme has been designed with you in mind.

The aims of the scheme are two-fold: to raise the expectations and achievement levels of young learners and to attract students into teaching, as long as you show the commitment, ability and desire to do so.

To help you get an idea of the benefits of the Student Associates Scheme, read what students have to say about it:

A student said:

“I chose to do the scheme as I was unsure whether teaching was for me or not. I knew that by going on the scheme I would get in-school experience which would help me make up my mind. I was not entirely sure what to expect from the programme, but was pleasantly surprised. It was a tremendous experience and one which I would recommend to anyone considering teaching”.

He successfully completed a Secondary PGCE in Applied Art and Design.

A graduate student completed a 15 day placement in his home town of Bolton. He said:

“I have developed great social skills with peers and, from this experience, I have become more confident in my ability to deal with children in a working environment and know how to meet pupils’ learning needs.”

He went on to gain a place on a PGCE course to teach Chemistry.

Another graduate student got the teaching bug supporting Biology at his local college. He enjoyed his first day, helping students with ECGs, so much he knew that this was the avenue he wanted to take.
