Fresh Start is an independent initiative, supporting students wishing to return to studies at UCLan. The Fresh Start Team are aware that choosing the right course isn’t always easy and there are times when personal issues sometimes gets in the way of that all important academic goal. The Team offer comprehensive non-judgemental advice and guidance relating to pursuing your academic career.

Sarah Delli-Colli, aged 24, used Fresh Start to change her course...
"I had withdrawn from the BSc (Hons) Forensic Science, course, Year 1. I had originally enrolled to pursue a career in Forensics. Following contact by Fresh Start, I was supported in my return onto Year 1 on the BSc (Hons) Archaeology course the following academic year. I successfully enrolled on a course I enjoyed and graduated with a 1st Class Honours Degree. Whilst a student I was elected by UCLan students as Education Officer in the Students’ Union. My role included training over 400 UCLan students in supporting their peers as Course Representative. I was passionate in championing positive change in support of students at the SU."
Martin, male, aged 20, enrolled on the BSc (Hons) Software Engineering Course in 2003/04, aged 21. Due to personal circumstances Martin decided to take a break from academic study and in the interim was awarded an exit award from the University of Dip HE (Diploma in Higher Education). Following contact and support from the Fresh Start Team, Martin returned to year 3 of his studies, aged 24 and was subsequently awarded a BSc (Hons) Software Engineering Degree – classification 2:2...
"Although I would not change any of my experiences during my 2 year gap, I do wish I had returned to university sooner. The main reason I didn’t was because I thought it would be difficult to get re-enrolled. For making that first difficult step so easy for me, I would like to thank Fresh Start."
