First steps to your future

The careers team in futures offers information, support, advice and guidance on career development, employability and enterprise.  You can book a confidential one-to-one appointment with an adviser based in the furtures centre next o the Library Building.  Our advisers can help you investigate options and opportunities for your career, draw up a career plan, writing CV and application forms and even provide mock interviews.

Many students use the service, let’s hear from a few about their experiences:

A first year combined honours student visited futures for help:
“The Adviser helped me to clarify possible career options.  It was reassuring to know that I could return if I needed further guidance.”

A student studying BSc Social Policy and graduated in 2006 says:
"I was stuck in which direction to take and after talking with an adviser this gave me a start."

A  Social Welfare Studies student who graduates in 2009  said:
“The help futures gave me with completing application forms and interview practice was invaluable. It helped me to get my job with Lancashire County Council.”

A mature student, who graduated in 2007 with an MSc in Psychological Research Methods said:
"Thank you very much.  As a mature student I didn't expect to ever need your services but I did and they were a great help."

An IT student who graduated in 2009 says:
“futures mock interview helped me answer the question in my telephone interview with IBM – they rang me straight back to say I got the job”

A student studying BA (Hons) Public Relations wishes she had used the service sooner:
“I am coming to the end of my course and although I have had lots of career advice from my course and lecturers, I feel that it would have been better for me to speak to a careers adviser on a one-to-one basis earlier to help me find a career focus”
