Preston, England’s newest city has a lot to offer new and existing students.  The university is just a short walk from the city centre making it easily accessible and offers something for everyone from nightclubs to museums.

After living here all my life and attending the university I know they city well.  It boasts a bustling shopping scene, two large shopping centres with high street fashion retailers alongside favourites such as Boots, WHSmith and HMV.  There are also independent boutiques hidden away off the main road offering something extra special.

The main road, Fishergate, in the city centre is conveniently split with one end offering the shops while the other end comes to life at night!  Preston offers an array of bars and clubs suiting all different tastes in music and atmospheres.  Sampling all of them is the best way to find your favourite!*

For those of you who enjoy a bit of culture thrown in with your studying, Preston offers a number of museums in the city.  At the heart of the centre is the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, which is free to enter and exhibitions change regularly to offer a variety.  Also the Museum of Lancashire housed in Preston’s Old Court House allows you to experience life in Preston during World War II.
Amongst the city centre council buildings is the Guildhall, this is where the graduation ceremony’s are held for the university but throughout the year it also showcases events such as pantomimes, live artists and sports events.  So it’s worth a look to see what’s on either at www.prestonguildhall.com or just pop in to the box office in the city centre.

Scattered across the centre is also a number of restaurants with a variety of food available from Thai to British pub food, most at a reasonable price so us students are able to enjoy a good meal out once in a while.

Explore the city for yourself and you will find the places you enjoy the most.  There’s something for everyone.
