Preston Market
A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!
The University is close to the Preston Market which is in the city centre and about a five or ten minute walk from university (depending on which building you are at). The market has both indoor and outdoor facilities. On the lower floor of the market you can buy fresh produce such as meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, cheese and bread. It is worth checking out the indoor market for your fresh fruit and veg as its cheap and generally locally produced so it's fresh, fresh, fresh!!! There is also at least one fruit and veg store that delivers to your door if you spend a tenner or more which is great news if you want to buy in bulk and don’t want to carry it!
The upper floor of the market is where you will find the non food stalls. If you want bags, cosmetics, household supplies, buttons, fabric, clothes, jewellery or home brew kits then this is the place to go! There are a number of stalls upstairs and even if you don’t need anything in particular then it’s worth a mooch around. There is also a cafe upstairs where you can rest your feet and have a cuppa should you get tired of retail therapy.
The outdoor market is again where you will find non – food items . There is a range of stalls on the outdoor market so whether whatever you fancy it is well worth a look. The outdoor market hosts a car boot / flea market on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 08:00 – 15:00 so you can hunt for bargains until your heart is content!
