Walking home alone

Walking home alone is something you should never do! Preston is relatively safe, but like everywhere in Britain it has its opportunist criminals – so don’t give them the opportunity – just because you are a student does not mean you are invincible!
"I used to walk home alone. Until anything happens to you, I don’t think you take it into account that you are putting yourself in danger.”
“It’s about knowing the dangers. I always take a route home where there is room to run away if I’m stuck in a tight corner. I’ve done self-defence classes and I don’t know if I could take someone, but I know that I would stand a chance. Knowing that kind of stuff can be really useful - and being assertive about it”.
“If you look like you know what you’re doing then you’re fine, but if you’re walking around looking all meek then you look like a target.”
“Me and my best mate, in the third year, used to go out and get drunk all the time. We’d walk and we had no money, because we’d spent it getting drunk. We’d walk all the way back at 3 or 4am. On reflection, it was a stupid thing to do. I do agree that if you walk around with confidence, then you’re less of a target.”
Note from the TAG Team - Looking confident when alone does not guarantee safety! Don’t walk home alone, and don’t abandon your friends!
