UCLan survey
A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!
One of the ways you can have your say!
The UCLan Student Survey gives students the opportunity to express their views and let the university know about their student experiences. The survey was previously known as the Student Satisfaction Survey. The current survey is running in conjunction with the Students' Union as it’s a crucial part in the university’s quality improvement programme. In the past, it has led to significant improvements in computing and library facilities.
A total of 3,542 students replied to the survey in 2008. Of the respondents:
• 93% of respondents were satisfied with the University as a whole
• 89% of respondents were satisfied with their course
• 88% of respondents were satisfied with their department
The survey covers topics related to the quality of teaching and learning and skills, personal development and questions related to specific services.
The results are analysed in detail to see which areas the university are performing well in and areas that require improvement. All feedback from UCLan students is taken seriously and used to improve our services, facilities and the student experience.
Here are some examples of the experiences reported by students at their time at UCLan:
“Excellent, caring and dedicated staff-challenging and stimulating atmosphere to learn in diverse range of course material. Being encouraged and rewarded to think not just swallow or regurgitate theories and information. Good learning structure i.e. lectures”
“I believe that more healthy options in essentials should be available at a cheaper price. Also the gym should be a lot bigger, and UCLan's residence should be improved.”
From the example above, UCLan received feedback in regards to the lack of healthy food shops around campus, UCLan has responded by opening new shops in the Library and Vernon with a focus on healthy food. We have also created 930 more en-suite accommodation units for student accommodation. UCLan continues to work on the feedback received by maintaining areas we have performed well in and also improving areas of concern. The aim of the survey is to improve the learning environment for prospective as well as current students.
The survey is a good chance for all students to have their say on what they think about the University. The survey runs between the 12th October until 30th November.
