TAG UCLan - The Alternative Guide (to UCLan)

'futures' (disabled students)

A realistic Guide to life at UCLan - written by students!

As part of the careers team within 'futures', there is a careers adviser dedicated to supporting deaf students and those with health conditions and disabilities.  Students can get help with career direction, application forms, CVs, mock interviews and support with issues relating to disclosure of disabilities in the workplace.

Let’s hear from those who have used the service…

A BA (Hons) Web and Multimedia student took a year out and needed advice:

“After completing work experience in my year out, I returned to use the service again and found it really useful, helping my gain information and useful contacts. If I had started to use the service early, it would have helped to get the ball rolling earlier when I would have needed more advice.”

A MSc Business Management student had negative experiences until he met with the 'futures' Disability Careers Adviser:

“Due to past negative experiences at college, I felt that the advisers would not have the knowledge required to deal with my enquiries. Since graduating I have been recommended to meet the careers adviser who deals with disabilities, and now I feel I would have benefited if I had used the service earlier.”

This service is open to all students and can be accessed throughout the year, even after graduation.
